Lament of the Fallen Knight

I fall to my knees
armor broken, wings fallen
I lay down my sword
my shield long forgotten
heavy my heart
weary my soul
failing in strength
to lift even my eyes
the shadows consume me
claim me as their own
and if you stand there beside me
if you offer your hand
to help me stand once more
if the moon shines brightly in my sky
I am blind to it where I kneel

     fallen

          broken

               failed

there is no light
upon my shoulders
no soft breeze upon my cheek
no strength left to journey onward
I am alone
I am defeated
hollow and empty
I am nothing.
